Julia Child once said, “people who love to eat are always the best people.”
We got to witness that at the Zomato experience last week at the newly opened Cho Gao Marina Walk, Abu Dhabi.
I decided to take my not-so-keen-on-food sister as a plus one. Little did I know that the whole experience and the food would turn her around.
We were greeted by the courteous Zomato executives and the restaurant staff.
The restaurant has a fantastic vibe. The dark and inviting interiors give it a luxurious feel. The restaurant has ideal space and perfect lighting. It has a well put together outdoor patio area where the diners can enjoy some casual drinks with friends.
We were seated at a long table prepared for fellow guests and bloggers.
The dimmed lights, the conversations, the clinking of glasses and cutlery made it a very comfortable and enjoyable experience.
We were served the assorted spring rolls, sesame crusted tuna and wasabi prawns for starters.
The zesty wasabi prawns was the highlight of the appetisers, served with mango salsa it was not too spicy to handle.
Even though I am not a sushi fan, I ended up devouring quite a few pieces of the Cho Gao special roll!
If you like tomyum kung soup, you will fall in love with the one in Cho Gao. Fresh and perfectly spiced, the soup was excellent.
The mains served were bakmi goreng, black pepper beef, roasted duck red curry and chilli prawns.
The flavoursome and delicious, roasted duck in red curry, with a hint of pineapple, grape and Thai basil took the crown.
The succulent melt in the mouth beef in teriyaki sauce was another winner.
The mains were complemented with crab fried rice, egg fried rice and the wok tossed bok coy, which I have to mention was palatable and could have been easily served as a main.
In desserts, we got to try the matcha cheesecake which was a pretty unique and a good change of flavour. The mango sticky rice was enjoyable. However, the bitter chocolate cake, with layers of heavenly chocolate mousse, topped with strawberry sauce, was to die for!
Zomato Gold offers its subscribers to enjoy an addition drink on the purchase of one hence we were offered many cocktails and mocktails by the restaurant to enjoy. For us, the apple mocktail with a hint of ginger was definitely worth coming back for.
Among many drinks, the blue dream caused quite a stir on the table and turned everyone into a paparazzi.
The Zomato gold service which is limited to drinks at the moment is being extended to buy one get one free meal soon. So keep an eye out for the update.
Overall the tasting at Cho Gao was a lovely experience and connected us with interesting individuals from various walks of life. By far it was one of the best tastings I have been too.
If looking for Pan Asian cuisine, look no further, it’s always a relaxing night out with friends at the Cho Gao Marina Walk.
